Cardiac rehabilitation helps individuals recover and regain a fulfilling life after heart disease. Participants learn to adjust their lifestyles, improve fitness, reduce risk factors, and return to productivity through physician-referred programs.
Eligible participants include those with heart conditions such as heart attacks, stable angina, bypass surgeries, valve replacements, stents, angioplasty, chronic heart failure, or heart transplants.
Benefits include:
- Understanding their heart condition
- Modifying risk-related habits
- Strengthening the heart and lungs through exercise
- Establishing a lifelong exercise routine
- Enhancing overall quality of life
Participants are supervised by registered nurses and trained fitness professionals throughout the program.
Program phases:
- Phase 1: Begins in the hospital during treatment and recovery.
- Phase 2: A 12-week outpatient program that includes monitored exercise and nutrition education, with sessions three times a week.
- Phase 3: A maintenance program at the Hess Fitness Center, allowing participants to exercise independently under supervision.
